Desiree Perez

Early Life and Career

A lifelong New Yorker, Desiree Perez was born and raised in the Bronx. The daughter of Cuban immigrant parents, Desiree’s drive and unrelenting work ethic were ingrained at a young age; throughout her youth, she observed her father’s resiliency as a Spanish-speaking owner of a moving company with an English-speaking client base. Empowered by his tenacity, Desiree would often assist her father on the job, picking up new skillsets and acquiring an understanding of the requirements to run a business. Her ability to listen, learn, and adapt, combined with an innate willingness to gain hands-on experience, is woven into the blueprint of her successful career trajectory.

Diversity and Representation

Built into the foundation of Roc Nation is its day one commitment to representation, a belief Desiree upholds in her professional and personal life. As a minority executive with firsthand experience in forging a career within a male-dominated industry, Desiree has long advocated for diversity, equity, and inclusion. Since co-founding Roc Nation, she has prioritized fostering a work culture that emphasizes equal opportunities. Acknowledging both the power of her voice and the strength in numbers, Desiree was among a group of top-ranking female executives who penned an open letter to The Recording Academy in 2018, calling for greater inclusivity and diversity.

“We have to create a better work culture. We have to create a culture that creates equality and that people actually believe in the women that they’re working with at whatever position that they’re in.”
